Electric Vehicle Charger Installation (EV Chargers)
- Level 1: Uses 120-volt outlets (120 V), the standard type of outlets used for lamps, toasters, and other small appliances. Your wall outlets can charge an electric vehicle.
- Level 2: Requires a 240-volt outlet (240 V), similar to those used for larger appliances like ovens and clothes dryers.
- Level 1: With a Level 1 charger, the charging rate is around 2 to 3 miles per hour of charge, meaning it takes approximately 70 to 90 hours, or about 3 days, to achieve a full charge. This makes it very inefficient and, in addition, it consumes more energy than a Level 2 charger.
- Level 2: Takes about a quarter of the time or less than a Level 1 charger to charge an electric vehicle. The time varies from 6 to 8 hours for a full charge and consumes less energy than the Level 1 charger.
- Level 1: Suitable for average commuters and does not require electrical upgrades. However, charging the vehicle consumes more energy and takes many hours.
- Level 2: Allows for faster charging at home requiring a 240 V outlet. You may need an electrical outlet or hardwired installation, which an electrician should assess.
- Level 3: These are called superchargers, found in public places, and provide fast charging. However, car manufacturers indicate in their manuals that frequent use of these chargers is not recommended as it affects the lifespan of the car’s batteries.
- Electricity for an electric vehicle is approximately 200% cheaper than gasoline. Additionally, charging during off-peak hours when electricity is less expensive can make charging even more affordable. For an exact calculation, you will need to know how much your electric service charges per kWh, and then check how many kW your charger uses. For example, if your charger is 9 kW and you use it for 6 hours, you will have consumed 54 kWh
- Renting doesn’t have to be a barrier to owning an electric vehicle. There are rebates available for adding charging stations to apartment buildings and workplaces, and there are many public EV charging stations in various areas.
- The best time to charge at home is between midnight and 3 PM to save money and maximize the use of clean energy. You can set a charging timer to charge your vehicle during this period.
- Electric vehicles face the same challenges as gasoline cars during power outages. Plugging a Level 1 charger into a 120 V outlet for 24 hours provides over 72 miles of range. Level 2 chargers typically fully charge in 8 hours, ensuring you are ready to go even during power outages.

Certifications and Experience
Yes, JEZ Electrical Solution was founded in 2022 and obtained the Journeyman License in 2023. We have completed EV charger installation training with ChargePoint.
Since September 2021, we have completed around 240 EV charger installations from brands like Tesla, ChargePoint, Emphoria, Juice Box, and others.
Jose Zerpa is the founder and responsible for the operations of JEZ Electrical Solution. He is a member of the Electrical Workers Union and the Rotary International Club.
